Perchten - the meaning

Obviously this picture doesn't represent an evil... The idea was born last year, when I went in Austria, in the village where my grandmother was born. The village is near Klagenfurt. In the Christmas period, the Perchten masks march through the main streets. The masks are entirely produced by craftsmen, with wood, horns and fur.
